Tuheitia’s plea to followers
Posted by karere under Maori News
King Tuheitia is again calling for the dumping of tribal chairwoman Tania Martin in favour of Tuku Morgan in an unprecedented open letter to Kingitanga followers.
Covering seven pages and distributed widely throughout Waikato-Tainui yesterday it broadly criticises Ms Martin, who is chairwoman of Te Kauhanganui the tribal parliament, as well as other executive Te Arataura board leaders Kingi Porima, Hemi Rau and Tom Roa.
The genesis of the letter started two years ago in an embarrassing chapter when Tuheitia unsuccessfully tried and failed to fire Ms Martin who had raised concerns about what she believed to be wasted tribal funds.
In the letter Tuheitia told tribal members he wished he’d pushed harder because in the intervening period the tribe had become dysfunctional, continuously mired in High Court battles.
“I’ve spoken openly about the fact that if I had the authority and power to dissolve Te Kauhanganui and … Te Arataura, I would have three years ago,” he wrote.
“I will not be judged by my people for my inaction … even though my actions may be seen as intrusive, I want to know in my heart that I tried.
The leadership of Te Kauhanganui and Te Arataura has been reckless and shameful.”
He called for Ms Martin and Te Arataura to stand down and is openly backing Tuku Morgan, who failed to win re-election earlier this year to the board.
The parliament is due to meet this Sunday.
The former truck driver also had words for his followers about their attitudes towards him.
“Many of you … have all made judgements of me, my decisions, my behaviour, my words, my appearance, my children, my wife, my office and my staff.
“I have continued to try to correct and improve myself regardless of your criticisms.”
In the tribe’s post-settlement era there has never been such a direct dressing down of the leadership tier by either the king or his late mother Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu.
Ms Martin did not return calls.

I feel for you my Kinsman for he too well knows Maoridom is fractured and refuses in arrogance and obstinace like fellow pakeha compatriots who also inhabit this land to face the facts of an uncertain future due to the glaring problem of rapid climate change now upon us. You have seen with your own eyes my friend that many among you are focused upon greed which prevails uppermost in the hearts and minds of many of your constituents. It is hoped that those who read these words take the time to ”Google” the latest World Bank and UN reports concerning the acceleration of climate change and to what the new movie of the ice melts worldwide. From my experiences to date when speaking to both Maori and Pakeha and other newbies I seriously doubt if such updates would impact the numerous denialist among Maori who I find in the main are a fatalist bunch and care little for their personal futures let alone their young. If they had any real concerns same as the pakeha they too would have acknowledged the issue by now of Global Warmings presence and escalating power and have started to plan and make proper well thought out preparations in order to survive the long term. Otherwise all this effort to preserve the language regain lost lands and supposedly build and economic future will have been a mere exercise in vanity. Many of you who know me personally also know full well I warned many of you of these looming and present issues as far back as 1984 after being warned from above. As per usual with such matters they are ignored and this is no fault of anyone of you and the concerns of the world make most of you deaf dumb and blind to be able to comprehend. To make make matters worse I too was a sceptic. Regardless of the past we must now content with the present and look into the future and prepare while able. Thus all bickering and division must cease and some real collaboration begin. It is such a pity such a once noble race among mankind now faces the very real prospect of self imposed extinction along with the rest of humanity for the road ahead has craters and not pot holes as many think. Time to be wise.
There are no real good maori leaders.
Only Tariana and Hone.
Climate Change is a hoax tax.
It has been tried in two overseas Supreme Courts, Santaigo and New Mexico and failed to be proven.
It was proven, however, that the gasses Climate Change condemn are, indeed, good for our planet.
Until judged otherwise in any other Supreme Court, these judgements stand.
Meanwhile, your tax payments go down the United Nations drain
